Through the Storm

The film above was my Junior Thesis. I used cut-paper animation, the oldest form of animation to ever be used in a feature film. Lotte Reiniger's work is a big inspiration to me, and her work inspired me to try out a Multi-plane for the first time.

This film features 7 backgrounds (including the sky paintings), and over 100 replacement parts. Some of the lighting work was in-camera, but many of the more specific effects were done using After Effects compositing.

If you want to know more about the project, check out my art blog

The puppet is 7 inches tall, with embroidery floss hair and a sculpey face. Her eyebrows and eyelids were left as soft clay to be animated.

The ceiling was made with candy wrappers and cellophane woven in to a mesh. This created the multi-colored stained glass effect for the film.
